It was created in 1994 from a merger of two traditional Brazilian textile companies: Sao Paulo Alpargatas (Textile Division), founded in 1907, and Santista Têxtil, operating since 1929.
The firm specializes in the import, export, processing, spinning, weaving and finishing of cotton and polyester mixed fabrics. It operates in three segments: Jeanswear (Denim and Sportswear), Work wear, and Full Package. Through these, the company supplies denim, Vestis and color fabrics for the production of women's, men's and children's clothing, and also active in the workwear market, supplying fabrics for employee uniforms in the industrial, commercial and service sectors and for brand name and retail chain companies with garments produced by third parties under its coordination.
Santista Textil is the country's largest exporter of canvas and denim. It operates more than eight factories in Brazil, in Chile and in Argentina. It sells its products principally to the United States and within South America. The company is a publicly quoted company listed on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange (BOVESPA), is controlled by Camargo Corrêa S.A. e Sao Paulo Alpargatas S.A., both with 50% of the voting shares.
The company aims to be the leading textile company in the Americas, with a global presence and having a close association on with the world's major companies in Jeanswear, Workwear, retail and owners of principal brands. This is achieved through providing basic products that are differentiated by exceptional service and assured quality, and provide its shareholders with an above average return.
